I have the following problem with Uniscan.
I have laptoop Pentium 2 - 366 MHz with one COM port and USB to RS 232 adapter.
I use MS virtual PC and made virtual Dos system. when i try to run Unsican vstart.exe system don't respond anymore. what is the problem?

I also tried to run Uniscan form win Xp with using DOSBOX 0.65.

How to make USB to RS 232 adapter to work in DOS? I only have drivers for win98, win2000 and win xp.
Is it possible to make it work with dosbox?

I've had this problem using old native DOS programs which requires direct access to ports like COM and LPT.
Try using VMWare instead of Virtual pc or DOSBOX.Set your virtual machine to use COM1 of the mainboard.

it's impossible to run uniscan under DOS-emulators and USB-COM adapters.
only native DOS and both hardware comports. pcmcia-com may work, but not all of them.

most usb to com adapters does not work properly even under xp(more than rx and tx is neded)

I finally made it. I used DOSBOX 0.65 and you have to configure bot COM 1 and COM2 in file dosbox.conf.
You have zo specify all - speed, parity, stopbits....

I tried on celeren 2800 - run withot problem and also on old laptoop pentium 2 366 Mhz - run litle slower but runs.

Both PC have original COM port and one USB to RS232 converter.

You have tested it on a real car? adapter recognition "on the table" is not a problem. problem is a normal connect with a car for a long period.

Perhaps, your virtual pc doesn't have enough memory to run Uniscan, does it? It also depends on dos memory extenders, that you're using.

what exact setings of the ports did you use?

i tried everything..I made my own interface 1 usb but with K and L line..I started Visa under Dos Box....everything acted normaly..and after i tried to connect to Ecu it was so slow...3 times at least....under win XP intreface works find with one usb with vag com and carsoft bmw at the same time....almost perfect..i have 2 virtual ser port on 1 usb....there is only a problem with drivers for usb in Dos...my opinion ...if there are some drivers for CD , dvd hdd,on usb under DOS why someone could not write those drivers for usb ser virtual com port....those people in Fdti company werent interested in that so we must do something about it..if is there someone willing to share some expireances and projects write on PP..regards

In the dos box you can set the processor speed, try to make it faster.

it is not recommended BUT some of the users was abble to make it. the problem was setings of the com port.

what do you mean when you say replacment????visa program acting almost normaly considering flashing K I L line but everything is so slow....read carefuly what did i write...well...I know some programers ..so they ll write drivers for virtual com ports in Dos..."if it is possible for usb store drives why it couldn be possible for virtual com ports...I doubt if they can manage that but anyway if they do that..I ' ll pay them very well...

adapters usb to com ports from are s....t....if you want your usb device the best way to get it is to make it.....for an example ..with fdti chips...maybe someone has other solutions.....regards....

Just get a PCMCIA to RS232 with two ports and get over it. They are not that expensive anyways.

Hello vanelino,
I was to quick with reply. Uniscan works under dosbox and than find interface. But when I try to connect with car ECU - nothing. I think the problem is timing.
Is not possible to connect to ECU under dos emulators like dosbox.

2 weeks ago i bought Silicom Pcmcia rs232 carn on ebay. I'm still waiting for delivery. as soon as i get it, i will make tests. i will let you know -sylvyo.
